Assessment

All pupils at St John’s have an EHCP which details their Special Educational Needs and Difficulties within the following areas of learning:

  • Cognition and Learning – including Reading, Writing and Maths
  • Communication and Interaction – speaking and listening, communication
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health – wellbeing, social skills, emotional regulation
  • Physical and Sensory – movement, sensory integration, physical skills
  • Self-help and Independence – these are crucial skills to support our young people as they move towards adulthood and are developed from the earliest stages

These inform pupils’ Individual Education Plan (IEP) targets and goals which are formally reviewed every six months.

Teachers also use in-class assessments and evidence to make termly judgements against the five areas listed above. Teachers record key elements of progress in all areas in individual files. These judgements are shared and moderated through termly Pupil Progress meetings with SLG.

St John’s School is a UNICEF Bronze Rights Respecting School. Ofsted rated ‘Good Provider’ (September 2023).
