Governors at St John’s have always played an active and supportive role in the life of the school. Now St John’s is part of a multi academy trust: Bedford Inclusive Learning and Training Trust (BILTT) we have a Local Advisory Board (LAB) which reports to the BILTT Board of Trustees.

Our Board Members:

  • Help to shape the vision and direction of the school
  • Ensure that the school fulfils its statutory duties
  • Work with the school to ensure that it delivers good quality education
  • Monitor and review all school policies, procedures and practice in order to secure the educational and social well-being of all pupils;
  • Monitor how effectively the school budget, resources and accommodation secure outstanding teaching and learning.

Board members have duties under company law and our multi academy trust funding agreement. Boards also operate within charity law and regulations.

A message from our LAB chair:

Welcome to the LAB pages of our website.

As a parent of a St John’s pupil I was surprised and flattered to be asked to join the former Governing Board several years ago. As we became a multi academy trust we have changed name but the input and support my fellow Board members provide remains vital to the success of the school. I was asked to become our chair in 2017.

A number of our LAB members (including me) also sit on the Trustees Board of BILTT and we all have an opportunity to use our professional skills to benefit the management and monitor the performance of the school. Our Board includes parents, business people and staff – we all have some specialism and knowledge to contribute to help the management and success of the school. When I am not being a mother to an amazing young man with SEN I am a community fundraising manager with lots of marketing and sales experience.

It’s a responsible role but always very rewarding. It’s also an excellent way for anyone connected to the school, or not, to give back to your local community and make a positive contribution to children’s education.

School board members and governors are one of the largest volunteer forces in the country and have an important part to play in raising school standards and we are always looking for new members with professional skills to share. If you would like to join us and play your part in St John’s future please contact me c/o the school at the address on our contact page.

Yours Sincerely

Laura Sherwood-King
